Backup for server as a service

How does server backup as a service work?

  • Highest possible security with secure data centres and full redundancy – all data is encrypted before transfer and kept encrypted throughout the transfer, storage and recovery processes.
  • Full flexibility – easy and quick to adjust if you need to change the number of units to be backed up.
  • Frees up time for existing IT staff to work with your business critical applications.
  • No maintenance, no hardware investments, always updated and guaranteed uptime.
  • Delivered with an SLA (Service Level Agreement) governing the guaranteed availability.
  • Climate impact is less with larger data centres.
  • Get predictable costs per month.

Why do so many companies run their backup solutions in-house?

  • They have dedicated IT staff.
  • They have always done it like that.
  • They don't know about other options and even less about how they might work.
  • They trust it to be the safest and most secure way of doing it.

What happens if we decide to buy backup as a service?

  • We will agree on a delivery plan that includes which backup solution will suit your needs the best, a date on which we will start the delivery, and whether you wish to have a support contract with us.
  • Selected server/servers will be configured for backup.
  • The initial backup session will run once a server/-s has been configured for backup. A copy of each selected file and directory is compressed and encrypted before being securely transferred to storage in an external data centre where they create the foundation for future backups and restores. The initial backup will run until it is completed. If it stops, for any reason, it will automatically restart from where it was before the interruption.

FAQs

How large backups can be done within the framework of our agreement?

Answer: It depends on which server backup solution you choose – we offer three different server backup services to choose between in order to be able to cater to your individual needs.

How many servers can we backup?

Answer: With LiveVault SMB (Small and Medium Business) you are allowed to backup one server per bought service plan. If you need to backup additional servers you can either add another service plan or upgrade your account to a service with support for unlimited amount of servers.

For how long are our backups kept in storage?

Answer: LiveVault SMB has a preset retention time of 3 months; LiveVault Corporate offers a range of retention times from 30 days to 7 years.

What happens if we lose the internet connection when the backup is running?

Answer: Basically, nothing happens. The backup will stop temporarily and then resume when the connection is reestablished.

How secure is it to outsource our backup to you?

Answer: Any data that you protect using our services are encrypted using a 256-bit AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) encryption at the source and is kept encrypted in transit and storage. LiveVault provides full redundancy.

Where do we turn if we need help and support?

Answer: We offer help and can arrange a support contract if you wish.

What is the difference between Snapshot technology and File replication?

Answer: Snapshot technology enables a more efficient and faster backup:

  • Enables efficient backup of databases.
  • Provides full access to a server's file system without the need of opening the file manager and thus eliminates the risk to affect files that are used while the backup is made.

Is it possible to ensure a fast recovery of business critical data?

Answer: LiveVault's recovery processes are efficient and this is extremely important when you are in a situation where you need to restore data. LiveVault also offers an optional Turbo Restore application. This allows local and very fast recovery of data that has been recently changed. The Turbo Restore application is easy to install, requires no maintenance and provides the ability to restore the latest versions directly when needed.

What is the difference between 'stored' and 'protected' data?

Answer: The need for storage space for the backup depends on retention time, the technology used to make the backup and how version control and deduplication is used in the service. With LiveVault services you pay for the amount of protected data and not on how much storage you use.
